We do our best in life to try to always be prepared and avoid accidents or bad things happening to us or our loved ones. When Nana Chaichanhda’s apartment in Stockton, California was on the verge of burning down after a deadly fire broke out in their apartment complex, their 8-month-old pit bull Sasha turned the hero for the family. She was keen and quick to sense the fire in a neighboring apartment and promptly started barking, trying to warn everyone. Sasha was so intent on rescuing the family that she began dragging their 7-month-old daughter by her diaper to get her to safety.
Nana heard Sasha banging on the back door and when she went to open it the dog rushed into the house and began to alert her with barking. This was not typical behavior for Sasha so she knew something was right. Nana didn’t know it at the time but Sasha’s insistent behavior was probably the one thing that saved their lives.
“I open it and she runs in and starts barking at me like crazy and I was like, ‘OK, this is weird. This is not like her,’” Chaichanhda told FOX40.
As Nana came out of her room, she realized that a fire was ablaze. Nana instinctively went to grab her toddler from the other room, as would any mother. With the apartment burning down around her, Nana had to make her way to the room where her 7-month-old girl was in. After she noticed the flames, Chaichanhda went to get her 7-month-old daughter and saw that Sasha had already beaten her to it.
“She had already had my baby by the diaper and was dragging her off the bed,” she told FOX40. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, what are you doing?’”
In that chaotic situation, the heroic dog had reached the toddler even before the mother. Sasha had somehow managed to climb on the bed of the sleeping baby and grabbed the waist of the baby’s diaper. She was determined to pull her out of her bed and carry her out of the apartment which would crumble any time. She persistently kept pulling at the diaper when Nana saw them.
“She has my baby by the diaper just dragging her off the bed — trying to get her to safety,” Nana added.
She managed to get the child out of the room while Nana carried both of them out thereafter. Not once did the dog hesitate to go through the fire to save a life.
Thanks to Sasha, the family got out in time, but they can’t go back to their apartment for the time being. But Chaichanhda said she is grateful that Sasha acted when she did or things could have been a lot worse.
Nana was quick to admit, “If it wasn’t for her, I would have still been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn.” Mostly, the single mother doesn’t keep Sasha outside the house at night and fatefully she did that night. She is happy she did that since it saved their life. “I owe her everything. If it wasn’t for her, I would have still been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn,” she told Fox 40. She is vocal about her gratitude and has plans for a big treat for the beloved dog.
Thanks to the loving and daring pet, the family survived the ordeal. The whole locality is in awe of the pit bull, while before this particular incident, most of them had little or no trust on the dog. They seem to better understand the breed and have taken to it very amusingly. They have been all praises for Sasha the savior.
Pitbull may look like aggressive type but in reality, they can be among the most loving, loyal, and friendly dogs you can ever have. They even can save your life.
